Louis Van Gaal Is Too Arrogant & Stubborn To Admit He Was Wrong

Last night Southampton came to Old Trafford and walked away with all three points. For the first time in the Premier League history, The Saints managed to defeat Manchester United at their own turf. Another unwanted record was broken by the Dutchman. It is starting to sound like David Moyes’ era. Only this time, fans are a bit more patient. Probably, because of Louis Van Gaal’s reputation and the fact that United is still in Champion League position.

Nonetheless, a couple more poor results and mark my words, the situation might change. A club like Manchester United doesn’t miss Champion League two seasons in a row.  Certainly NOT considering the amount spent on superstars like Angel Di Maria and Juan Mata. Van Gaal is obviously too arrogant to admit that his 3-5-2 system is not working. He is also too stubborn to change it, too.

His ego was all there to see when he decided to leave Radamael Falcao out of his team against Southampton, who is only just below the Red Devils prior the match. A smarter move was to have the Colombian at least on the bench, just to keep the likes of Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney on their toes. However, Van Gaal is always going to be Van Gaal. A win without Falcao will surely be followed by plenty of applause and genius proclamation. Lose and he will definitely look as stupid as he did last night. But Van Gaal doesn’t care. He is always going to do it his way!

The way Louis Van Gaal gambled in many of United’s matches this season is reminiscent of Sir Alex. The great Scott however, normally gambled when the odds were against him like throwing 17 year old Federicho  Macheda when United were 1-2 down against Aston Villa a few years ago.

Louis Van Gaal’s approach is more daring. He gambled when the odds were still even. Playing 3-5-2 with Danny Blind just coming back from injury and with both Smalling and Jones not comfortable with the system plus the small matter of leaving Falcao from the squad. It was crazy and I stopped twitting last night as soon as I saw the line-up and formation.

One thing for sure, Louis Van Gaal won’t admit he was wrong. He may still lead United to Champion League next season and finish with a silverware (an FA Cup) maybe? He might also bring many more new players that can fit his football philosophy. However, I can’t help feeling that he might not be the right man for Manchester United. Still, I hope I’m wrong, though. GGMU!
