Premier League's Best Paid Goalkeeper

When Manuel Neuer was not chosen as 2014 FIFA Ballon d'Or winner in favour of Cristiano Ronaldo, not many people whined, except of course those coming from his country of birth, Germany. The fact that Neuer won the World Cup, Bundasliga plus many other accolades does not warrant enough for him to pip the Portugese, whose team, Portugal not even past the first round of the World Cup final in Brazil. To add salt to the Germans' wound, Lionel Messi who wasn't great in 2014 was voted second behind Ronaldo in FIFA Ballon d'Or and above Manuel Neuer

Most Expensive Goalkeeper In The World
This shows the different valuation between a striker and a goalkeeper. For the record, the most expensive goalkeeper in the world is Gianluigi Buffon from Italy. Juventus paid in the region of £32m for his services back in 2001, which raised many eyebrows at the time. The legendary Italian was himself a runner-up for the Ballon d'Or in 2006 and were the only goalkeeper to have won the UEFA Club Footballer of the Year Award in 2003.  He has also been named the Serie A Goalkeeper of the Year a record nine times. So, you might say that he was worth that much. But no club has ever paid more than £30m for a goalkeeper ever since. Not even for Neuer.

Most Expensive Players In The World
On the other hand, clubs have been splashing cash (huge amount of cash) to the outfield players with £86m paid by Real Madrid to acquire the service of Welsh wizard, Gareth Bale in 2014. That bettered the previous record also set by Real Madrid when they plucked Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United for £80m. Madrid's chief rival, Barcelona forked out £75m to bring Luis Suarez from Liverpool and £71.5m for Neymar from Santos.

Even a defender, David Luiz seemed to have better value in the eyes of those people running Paris Saint-Germain when they paid Chelsea £50m for his service. A deal that made Leo Messi look like this :D :

World's Best Paid Goalkeeper
In term of salary, goalkeepers also receive less pay compared their fellow professionals. The best paid goalkeeper in the world is Real Madrid's captain Iker Casillas who earns £165,000 per week. That was a far cry from what Ronaldo dan Bale got at  Santiago BernabĂ©u. Three times FIFA Ballon d'Or winner was reported as having a salary of £288,000 a week (After Tax!). The world's most expensive player, Bale earns slightly less at £256,000 per week.

Premier League's Best Paid Goalkeeper
Currently, the best goalkeeper in the English Premier League is Manchester City's Joe Hart. England's No. 1 currently earns £120,000-a-week after his wages rocketed when he signed a new deal with the champions last month. His status as No. 1 is set to be threatened as city rival, Manchester United set to open negotiation with David De Gea over a new contract that reported to be around £140,000-a-week. With De Gea's current contract due in less than 18 months and Real Madrid interest in him is well documented, David De Gea could set for a bumper contract and put himself as the Premier League's best paid goalkeeper and second in the world overtaking from Manuel Neuer and Gianluigi Buffon

  1. Do you think David De Gea's worth that much?
  2. Do you think goalkeeper should be paid on par with the outfiled players?
  3. Who is the best goalkeeper in the world?
As always, feel free to comment and share your view.
