National coach Holloway Cheah has high hopes for elite bowler Radin Nur Najwa Arifah Radin Dzulfakar in the World Youth Championships 2014 in Hong Kong from Aug 6-15. Holloway is expecting Radin to make a breakthrough in the championships despite her indifferent form now. “She is a good player although her style of play seems ordinary. She is mentally strong and I could see that in training,” said Holloway.

The 21-year-old Radin and elite team-mate Natasha Roslan will spearhead the girls’ challenge. The other two are back-up bowlers Victoria Chin and Nerosha Keligit. Of the four, Victoria is the only one with a title to her name. She won the Hong Kong Open title last month. Radin, however, failed to get past the qualifying rounds.
Holloway is paying a lot of attention on Radin, who joined the elite squad this year, during training at the Sunway Mega Lanes in Sunway Pyramid.“The competition will be stiff in the World Youth Championships. Singapore are sending most of their top bowlers as they are still eligible while South Korea have a huge pool of players.
“Our bowlers have the potential to be up there against them but we need everybody to be on top of their game,” said Holloway. For the record, Malaysia returned with two silvers and two bronzes from the last championships in Bangkok in 2012.
