After more than 30 years, the FA of Malaysia (FAM) finally have a new President. Tengku Mahkota of Pahang, Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, was elected as the new president of FA of Malaysia (FAM) after defeating Tengku Mahkota Johor, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, in a two-way contest for the President post. The 55-year old crown prince of Pahang polled 27 out of 39 votes compared to 12 for Tunku Ismail.
Earlier there was a revote in the contest for the FAM presidency. Tengku Abdullah had garnered 24 votes to Tunku Ismail’s 15 votes. However, the FAM constitution states the need for a two-third majority win in the event there are more than two candidates (due to the fact that FAM president Sultan Ahmad Shah is still considered a candidate despite announcing his withdrawal from the race).
Congratulation to Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah. We wish him all the best and hopefully he can help elevate our national football team's performance to a higher level.
