EPL: Arsenal 3 Newcastle United 0

Arsenal look set to seal their Champion League spot after defeating Newcastle United 3-0 at Emirates Stadium last night (Malaysian time). First-half goals from Laurent Koscielny and Mesut Ozil were added to after the break by Olivier Giroud in a comfortable victory over Alan Pardew's side. It was also condemning Newcastle to their sixth straight defeat and their supporters expressed their discontent at their season’s slide into mediocrity. “It’s six in a row, it’s six in a row, Alan Pardew, it’s six in a row” chanted the Newcastle fans, noting their worst run in the top flight since 1986-1987 under Willie McFaul. Some fans also held up banners saying “Pardew Out” and “Next Excuse Pardew?

As for Arsenal, the win lifted Arsenal four points clear of Everton in the race for fourth with two games remaining. With the brilliant Aaron Ramsey back to spearhead Arsenal's attack and Mesut Özil at his best, there was only one winner to this contest. The win also guaranteed them to finish above neighbour, Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League for the 19th successive season. Should Everton fumble in their game against title contender, Manchester City this coming week, the fourth place is all but secured for Arsenal and the Gunners can look forward to their FA Cup final against Hull City next month.
