Diving World Series: Bronze For Pandelela Rinong

She hasn't managed to break the Chinese divers' monopoly yet but a bronze in the third leg of the Diving World Series at the London Aquatics Centre is still a fine achievement for Malaysian diving princess, Pandelela Rinong. The Sarawakian lass who won the bronze at the London Olympics which took place at the same venue two years ago, produced an impressive performance to finish third in the women’s 10m platform individual final. She chalked up a superb 81.60 in her final dive to confirm the bronze with her total of 380.70 points.

Her score is actually not far from the top two divers who took gold and silver with the score of 400.55 and 394.75 points respectively. Olympics champion Chen Ruolin edged out Canadian Meaghan Benfeito with two superb dives in her last two attempts to secure the gold. Another Chinese diver and winner of the first two leg, Li Huixia surprisingly fumble in her last attempt and allowed Pandelela Rinong to finish abover her for the first time. It was a great end to the week for Pandelela as she and Leong Mun Yee failed in their bid to win a medal in the platform synchro on Friday. They could only manage to finish fourth.
