Real Madrid In The Champion League Final And This Could Be Ronaldo's Year

Having regained the prestigious FIFA Footballer Of The Year from Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo is now setting his sights for more glory this year with the 2014 World Cup medal  surely being his ultimate aim. The Real Madrid who has broken so many records this season added another one this early morning (Malaysian time) by becoming the first player to score 15 or more goals in a single Champion League season. Ronaldo did that with style by leading his team to a 4-0 demolition over defending champion, Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena. The Germans were truly shell-shocked and the all-conquering Bundesliga side that consists of Philipp Lahm and Bastian Schweinsteiger, Franck Ribéry and Arjen Robben, was blown away by the quality of Real’s work. Real moved to the final and Cristiano is one step away from winning his second Champion League medal after tasting the same victory in 2008 while he was still with Manchester United.

With the double against Bayern, Cristiano Ronaldo aka CR7 has now scored 16 Champion League goals this season with a chance to add more in the final which will be played in his home town, Lisbon. His prowess eclipses the previous record of 14 shared by Lionel Messi (2011-12 Barcelona), Ruud van Nistelrooy (2002-03 Manchester United) and Jose Altafini (1962-63 AC Milan). Should he win the Champion League and then add La Liga and the World Cup to his medal collection, then without a shadow of doubt his legendary status will never be in question, not that he needed all that to prove that he's up there with Maradona, Pele and Zidane.

Real Madrid has been superb under Carlo Ancelotti this season. They are definitely the overwhelming favourite to win the Champion League now that Bayern is out of the way. They are also still very much in race for La Liga title this season although still trailing Atlético by three points. With the Portuguese having a decent team with an outside chance to win the World Cup, who knows, this could be Cristiano Ronaldo's year. A year that could propel an already outstanding footballer to greatness. CR7 is simply 'phenomenal'.
