Of all the imports that Johor Darul Takzim (JDT) brought in this season, Singaporean, Harris Harrun is probably the less glamorous. Nonetheless, judging from the last two games that he has started for the Southern Tigers, Harris had proven that he is a good acquisition and not just a back-up to Pablo Aimar and other JDT stars. His partnership with Mohd Shakir Shaari in midfield looks solid and they seem to have forged a very good understanding together which means JDT's head coach Cesar Ferrando Jimenez will have some decision to make when Safiq Rahim and Pablo Aimar are available for selection again. He can only play three imports at one time. Aimar is the ‘marquee’ signing, therefore he will start whenever he is available. IF Jimenez wants to accommodate Harris Harrun, he will have to drop either strikers, Luciano Figueroa or stand-in captain, Baihakki Khaizan. Both have been ever present for JDT this season.
Personally, I like to see Harris Harrun given more playing time for JDT. He reminds me so much of Manchester United’s Michael Carrick – doing his job quietly and effectively. He can pass the ball very well and his positional sense is quite brilliant. Plus, his tackles are not too shabby too. To accommodate him, Cesar Ferrando Jimenez must drop Safiq Rahim as Mohd Shakir Shaari looks indispensable to JDT at the moment. The former Red Warrior is just a top class midfielder and probably the best in Malaysia.
With Aimar filling one of the three imports quota, I will pick Luciano Figueroa ahead of Baihakki Khaizan if I want to play Harris in the team. Yes, Baihakki has been outstanding for JDT this season. However, JDT is all about attack and they spend most of their playing time at opposition’s half. Of all the strikers that JDT has, I think Luciano is the only one who understands Aimar very well. He will link up with his fellow Argentinian while the rest learn to play the same way too. Meanwhile at the back – a combination of Mohd Aidil Zafuan and Fadhli Shas is quite a rock for JDT. Ex-Lions’s captain, Baihakki Khaizan however will be useful when JDT is up against teams like ATM or Pahang who posses big centre forwards such as Marlon Alex James and Dickson Nwakaeme.
JDT’s next match will be against Sime Darby on the 3rd March after players come back from international duties. So, Cesar Ferrando Jimenez will have plenty to think about on what combination he should use. I suspect he will stick with Aimar, Figueroa and Baihakki Khaizan as his three playing import players. He has been insisting on playing Safiq Rahim, Mohd Shakir Shaari and Aimar as his midfield trio with Luciano Figueroa supported by Mohd Amri Yahyah and either one of Norshahrul Idlan Talaha, Nurul Azwan Roya or Nazrin Nawi up front. I don’t think he will change his first choice players for the time being. Therefore, Harris Harrun need to be patient and work his way into Jimenez’s plan.
According to media report, Pablo Aimar should be back for Sime Darby’s match. After some impressive display for JDT, it’s a shame if Harris Harrun is the one who has to make way for the Argentinian superstar.
